I did NOT go into the BIOS before I installed the card to kill the onboard sound. Only strange things I see are a couple of lights, one pulsing slowing on the mobo at the connectors for the speakers and mike. Connected things back up, slipped the box back into the cubby, fired up, got lights and fans spinning, but no post. Did it right outside the cubby on a plastic mat used for the office chair. The sound card easily dropped down into the slot and the only thing I touched was the case, the screw for removing the cover, then drop into slot and screw the card down. Fans all running and no dust on them either. CCleaner has had 2 updates within the past 6 months. No dust in the cubby either so I had no reason to vacuum the inside of the box. Download CCleaner for Windows to keep your PC running smoothly with simple and advanced tools for all level of users. Office is carpeted but having a severe dust allergy I have an air purifier in the office, and a good housekeeper who I have vacuum thoroughly. Very surprising as it's been in there for almost 6 years. Looked as clean everywhere as the day it was built. New sound card was TOO easy! Pulled computer out of its cubby and was greatly surprised at the lack of dust, both in the box and in the cubby. If moderators want a new thread we can move from this post forward. Was going to start new thread but I thought it was all related to this, and another recent one about my sound problems.

To come up with over 30 drivers to update after all that, makes me wonder about the efficacy of Ccleaner and its advice on out-0f-date drivers. I just downloaded the latest update to W10 about a week ago and thought I had everything up to date, especially the sound drivers I had updated.

I did NOT update all the ones it said were out of date as I wondered what the experts here think about this facility in Ccleaner. It showed a couple of Realtek drivers needing updates, a couple of NVidia drivers and 21 others! I just went through most of my drivers, particularly the Realtek drivers that may be connected to a problem I'm having. You can also change your update options at any time via Options > Updates > Control product updates for CCleaner (see the screenshot for reference). Now checkmark the box that reads Automatically check for updates to CCleaner. If in case it is disabled then navigate to CCleaner main page and then click on the Setting icon in the panel on the left side. Since I've been fiddling with them believing a sound problem I'm having was possibly connected to the drivers, I decided to check. Therefore to fix this issue first make sure that automatic update feature is enabled within the CCleaner application. Noticed that the newest version of Ccleaner apparently downloaded a facility for checking updates on drivers. Preparing to fiddle with my box I decided to clean the garbage first by using Ccleaner.
